Effects of poly(o-phenylenediamine) functionalized SiC on the corrosion protection ability of neat polyurethane coating system in the marine environment

A novel nanocomposite consisting of polyurethane (PU), poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD), and silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles was investigated for its application in marine environment through electrochemical techniques. The PoPD/SiC nanofillers were characterized by TGA, XRD, SEM/EDX, TEM analyses. anticorrosion mechanical properties different coating formulation evaluated impedance spectroscopy (EIS) scanning microscopy (SECM). It also found that the resistance PU-PoPD/SiC over 41 times higher than PU coating. coatings on brass showed low current 1.9 I/nA due to copper dissolution 6.8 zinc because well distribution nanofiller analyses resultant degradation products SEM/EDX XRD techniques confirmed presence Si which has a major role protecting surface against corrosion. Results composite with 2 wt.% hybrid had outstanding performance. This demonstrated improved corrosion protection. As result, developed exceptional adhesion strength might be exploited develop next-generation anticorrosive coatings.
